Marketing your website

Often businesses have a website created or updated but do not then promote it. If you have vans / signage or promotional material always remember to add your website to it. You could also make sure that you have set up accounts on the social media sits and push your new or revamped website on there. Be sure to mention what is available on there or what improvements you have made. If you have an ecommerce website, then you may be able to hand pick a few products that are either on special offer or are popular and promote the specific pages on your website where they can be found.

Google Adwords is a great way to get your website to the top of the first page of the search results page instantly – the day it goes live as otherwise you may have to wait a few weeks before it gets indexed by the search engines and even then it may appear a lot further on than you would like it to.

What is Pay per Click and how does it work?

PPC also known as Pay per Click is creating an advert on a website that is shown to viewer. This ad is created by the business owner (or marketing company) and uploaded to the website. When the ad is clicked on, it will take the visitor through to the destination page on the business owner’s website. The publisher (website owner) then charges the business owner a fee every time the ad is clicked on.

Getting your website found on the internet

Getting your website to be found by potential customers is something that all website owners need to think about. Ideally you will already have a web company that looks after the site for you, but if not you can either employ a marketing agency and there are also something’s you can do yourself.

First of all you should establish a list of ten or twenty phases initially of your main keywords that if people type in to a search provider you will appear for. Once you have these the next best thing is to analysis where you currently rank for those phrases on the likes of Google, Yahoo and Bing.

You may ask an outside agency to do this for you as your own laptop or PC may show you different results to what other people see as some search engines change the results depending on things like your location and if you have visited the site before. You can then discuss this with the agency and make a proactive plan of how to improve each one.

What makes a great website

Designing a great website is all about research. You need to establish who your target audience is. If for example, you are promoting a 13-30’s holiday resort, you will want your website to look fun and youthful. You will want to have images and possibly videos of the resort and what entertainment is on offer. You will also need to have a presence on the social media sites, as this is often used frequently by people within this age group.

Maybe you have a totally different type of site offering a cleaning service for example. In this instance you would want your website to appear professional and also “clean”. This can often be achieved by not over crowding the site and choosing colours that are calm and not too bright. You may also find it important to have testimonials on this type of site as many people will look for a cleaner who has good reviews and has a large amount of satisfied customers.
